some of my fav house plants

Many of you ask about my plants styled around our home — here are some of my favorites. 🙂

Pothos

If you want an easy houseplant – the Pothos is your answer.  It actually does not do well in direct sunlight.  They can tolerate very low light and need water only once a week.  They are toxic to dogs, cats and children if ingested but is not lethal.  They are good hanging plants, so mine are not tempting to our dog or kids.

cactus and succulents

It’s no secret that these kinds of plants love the sun and dry weather.  They DO need water, however.   The good news is they do not require daily or even weekly watering, so you can vacation and not worry about these guys.

the olive tree

The olive tree is just gorgeous.  It’s subtle color and gentle beauty makes me so happy.  We have fruitless olive trees planted outside and around our house and I used one inside for awhile to style our bathroom remodel (although they can be tricky to keep happy inside- they need lots of natural light).  I also LOVE to clip my olive trees and style my vases inside with the clippings.

the umbrella tree (or schefflera)

The umbrella tree is easy to take care of, grows tall and fairly skinny and adds beautiful height and texture to a room.  It needs sunlight and watering about once a week.   Over-watering is more of a problem than forgetting to water it.  Every time I post our living room, many of you ask what the big tree is.  This is it!

the snake plant

The snake plant, aka mother-in-law’s tongue, is tall,  beautiful, simple and THE EASIEST PLANT.  I’ve had mine for almost a year and I think I’ve watered it twice.  Amazing! It’s perfect for a pot to style an accent table.

Good luck adding house plants to your home!

accessories fashion favorites shoes sunglasses style trendy trending trend

Because it seems to be birthday season . . . and wedding season . . . and it’s almost mother’s day . . . I’m sharing some of my favorite accessories that make PERFECT gifts!  Each item has a link for easy shopping.

The Fanny Pack:  My mom wears a fanny pack.  My sister and I make fun of her for wearing it.  I must be turning into my mother because I now own and wear a fanny pack!  HAHAHA!  For reals!  I bought this for Coachella and my husband and I took turns wearing it.  Hands free and easy.  It is AMAZING and fits a lot of stuff without looking or feeling bulky.

Ray-Ban’s:  These Ray-Bans are DA-BOMB.  They look awesome.  They feel awesome.  And they are the perfect mix between comfortable, trendy and casual.  LOVE THEM.

The Nixon Watch:  I actually don’t own it but I WANT IT.  It’s classic and chic and casual and cool.  WANT WANT.

The West Elm Planters:  These are SO COOL!  If you follow my instagram feed at all, you know I love gallery walls and I love plants/succulents.  So creating a gallery wall out of these planters/succulents sounds like heaven to me.

The Candle:  I LOVE this candle.  It lasts a long time and smells delicious.   It also looks super stylish on my coffee table.

The Adidas:  Classic and super comfortable.  Enough said.  Be sure to order a 1/2 size smaller as they run big.  I wore these to Coachella and was THANKFUL I wore sneakers.  I DO NOT understand how gals can wear heels at that festival. Blows my mind.  We walked and danced A TON.

The Pillow:  Shameless plug for my pillow shop.  But seriously, pillows can update a room and instantly bring in style and make it feel current.   Because I was so obsessed with changing out my pillows all the time, I started to make them . . . and eventually sell them.  Still my favorite home accessory.

vintage pillows AND durable — an oxymoron? not anymore!

[et_pb_section bb_built=”1″ admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row” make_fullwidth=”off” use_custom_width=”on” width_unit=”on” custom_width_px=”700px” use_custom_gutter=”off” allow_player_pause=”off” parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on” make_equal=”off” parallax_1=”off” parallax_method_1=”off”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”]

Are you a vintage mud cloth and/or indigo pillow owner?  I know many of you are!  The african vintage mud cloth fabric is definitely trending and the pillows are a must for many of us to complete the modern bohemian look.   Pillows complete a room FOR sure . . . but they should also be practical.  If you have to worry every time you lean against a pillow in fear it will rip, that’s just not cool.   Ever have this problem with your vintage pillows?

IMG_4693

Yep – me too.   I am in the business of making pillows . . . and this is NOT cool.  Even though I reinforce the seems with a stitch, this is still bound to happen if you use your throw pillows for everyday life.   When this happens, you can take out the pillow insert, turn your pillow cover inside out and with a thread a needle, sew the seam shut.

BUT I don’t want you to have to do that.  So, from now on, on all fabrics that seem vulnerable to seam issues, I am sewing the entire piece of vintage fabric to another piece of fabric, making sure to include a stitch along every seam.

So now, your vintage (fragile, old and beautiful) fabric pillows will be DURABLE!  YES!  You and your friends, kids, pets, etc. can throw them around, sit on them, drool on them, whatever!  The pillows will survive!

Ok… you’re welcome… and enjoy!  You can shop here.  The pillows that are fully reinforced will be labeled as such.

Just in case you and I have a similar style, I thought I would share some of my favorite things that also make awesome gifts!  Many of these items are for around the house — you probably know by now that I love home decor.  But I also love casual comfort for my personal style so I’m mixing in a little of that as well.   Happy shopping!

Baskets always come in handy.  Storage, planter, toys, etc.  I love this one from Anthropologie for its texture, color and tassle.
